A group of four Indian students seek entry into Limca book of records

A group of four students seek entry into Limca book of records by performing yoga for 180 minutes in Chennai.
The students of city's Velamal Matriculation Higher Secondary School struck 999 yoga postures in a bid to get registered in the Limca Book of Records.
The event was held as part of the school's 'Save the Earth 99999 Lights out' campaign to spread awareness amongst the students and masses about global warming.

"The main objective of arranging this programme is to propagate the double nine and triple nine concepts to the students as well as to the public in and round Chennai. Double nine and triple nine is nothing but to create awareness about global warming. We are going to tell all the students to tell their parents and relatives to switch off their lights. Indirectly it will help to avoid this global warming," said P.Prabakaran, Principal of the school.
The school authorities hope this initiative will help sensitise people about the threat of global warming and its far-reaching impact on the ecology.

Donna Simpson - World Fattest and Haviest Living Women set World Record

Donna Simpson, 42, from New Jersey weighs more than 42 stone and aims to reach 1,000 pounds, or 71st.
The mother of two children, aged three and 14, models on a website, where admirers and the curious can pay to watch videos of her eating greasy foods or walking to the car.

She has appeared in television interviews and said she welcomes media coverage.

A Guinness World Records spokesman said Miss Simpson has submitted a claim for the title of world's heaviest woman to give birth, a claim that is being reviewed.

Among the heaviest women ever recorded was one who reportedly weighed 128st and another who reportedly weighed 85st at the time of their deaths.

Miss Simpson said she has received a book offer and wants her own reality show, partly to give plus-size women more confidence. She wears size XXXXXL clothing, which she buys mostly online, and calls herself a member of the "fat acceptance community."

"The bigger your butt is, the bigger belly you have, the sexier you are," she said.

Miss Simpson has found a man who says he appreciates her size, and they plan to marry in Hawaii this year. She said airlines are being accommodating of her needs.

Her fiancée, 49-year-old Philippe Gouamba and the father of her three-year-old daughter, said he not only finds her attractive but is also one of her biggest supporters in her quest to expand her girth.

"You look at her curves and see her full belly and generous hips," Mr Gouamba said. "It's very sexy."
Miss Simpson said she gets emails from women who think they will never fall in love or have children because of their weight.

"I just say that's not true," Simpson said. "I would love to be a voice, so that people can see a woman of size having a regular family."

Miss Simpson spends as much as £516 a week on groceries, suffers from Type 2 diabetes and struggles with basic tasks such as cooking and taking a shower.

But she dismisses critics who warn that her weight can lead to heart problems, aggravate her diabetes and cause pressure on her joints.

"I'm very healthy. I go to the doctor every three months," she said.

World Press Photo of the Year 2007 wins by British photographer

British photographer Tim Hetherington has won the 51st World Press Photo of the Year award for a shot of a tired U.S. soldier in Afghanistan. Hetherington shot the image Sept. 16, 2007 in the Korengal Valley while on assignment for Vanity Fair.

His Afghanistan story was also awarded 2nd place in General News Stories. The World Press Photo jury announced its decisions Friday in Amsterdam. Other big winners include John Moore of Getty Images, who won first place in both spot news categories for his coverage of the Benazir Bhutto assassination; and Balazs Gardi, who won first place in both general news categories for photographs from Afghanistan.

Gardi is represented by newly established VII Network. Hetherington broke the recent trend of World Press Photo juries favoring breaking news photos over magazine stories. The top prize had gone to wire service photographers four years in a row. In a year when no one story dominated the news, Hetherington's evocative, nearly monochromatic photo shows how an ongoing conflict with no definite end affects the individual. "This image shows the exhaustion of a man - and the exhaustion of a nation," said jury chairman Gary Knight, chairman of VII Photo, in a press release. "We're all connected to this.

It's a picture of a man at the end of a line." Time director of photography MaryAnne Golon added, "I use all my energy to have people notice bad things. There's a human quality to this picture. It says that conflict is the basis of this man's life." Tom Hetherington was injured in a fall while working in Afghanistan; he has recovered enough to return to work.

He and Vanity Fair contributing editor Sebastian Junger described their work in Afghanistan in an online video published with their January 2008 story, "Into the Valley of Death." "As a cameraman, as a photojournalist I need to be close to where the action is happening,"
Hetherington said, quoting Robert Capa's famous words of advice, "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough." The World Press Photo contest attracted a record number of participants, with 5,019 photographers, up 12.5 percent over last year.

Eighty percent chose to enter their work online; they submitted a total of 80,536 images. First place winners in other categories are: People in the News singles: Yonathan Weitzman, Israel People in the News stories: Philippe Dudouit, Switzerland, for Time magazine Sports Action singles: Ivaylo Velev, Bulgaria, Bul X Vision Photography Agency Sports Action stories: Tim Clayton, Australia, Sydney Morning Herald Sports Features singles: Andrew Quilty, Australia, Oculi for Australian Financial Review Magazine Sports Features stories: Erik Refner, Denmark, Berlingske Tidende Contemporary Issues singles: Brent Stirton, South Africa, Reportage by Getty Images for Newsweek Contemporary Issues stories: Jean Revillard, Switzerland, Rezo.ch Daily Life singles: Justin Maxon, USA, Aurora Photos Daily Life stories: Pieter ten Hoopen, The Netherlands, Agence Vu Portraits singles: Platon, UK, for Time magazine Portraits stories: Vanessa Winship, UK, Agence Vu Arts and Entertainment singles: Ariana Lindquist, USA Arts and Entertainment stories: Rafal Milach, Poland, Anzenberger Agency Nature singles: Fang Qianhua, China, Nangfang Dushi Daily/Southern Metropolis Daily Nature stories: David Liittschwager, USA,

Indian students Among the Best rated by Oxford University

The Oxford University considers Indian students among the best in the world and would like more of them joining its campus, Chancellor Chris Patten has said.

The university, which produced the likes of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, has presently 257 Indian students on roll. But one-third of its students are from China.

"We want more Indian students because we want the best in the world to come to Oxford," Mr. Patten said. Most of the Indian students are in the Said Business School.

"About a quarter of the students are doing MBAs...but I would like to see more in social sciences and humanities, doing both under-graduate and post-graduate work," he said.

Though Indians are less in number, they have won more scholarships than the Chinese.

Last year, they won 54 different scholarships, including the prestigious Rhodes scholarship, according to an Oxford journal. "They (Indians) probably got more than China," the Chancellor said.

He said the number of scholarships may go up as the university improves its financial position.

"I hope as we develop our endowments we will be able to offer many more (scholarships) to post-graduate students in the next few years," Patten said. The university has developed a Master’s programme in South Asian studies.

For a one-year MBA programme, it could cost as much as Rs. 40 lakh, including the cost of tuition fee, boarding and lodging and the out-of-pocket expenses.

"It is a different world out here...We are gaining immensely," said Karandeep Singh Vohra, pursuing MBA at the Said Business School.

Worlds Heaviest Baby Born by Indonesian Woman

An Indonesian woman has given birth to the heaviest baby ever born in the country, a boy weighing in at an eye-watering 19lbs. We take a look at some of the other extreme sizes and shapes the human body can reach.

Heaviest baby ever

Sadly, the heaviest baby ever born, in January 1979 in Ohio, USA, died after just 11 hours. The boy weighed 23lb 12oz. His Canadian mother, Anna Bates, was herself was an unusual woman at 7ft 5in tall.

The heaviest surviving newborn seems to have been a 22lb 8oz boy born to one Carmelina Fedele in Aversa, Italy, in September 1955.

World's Lightest baby ever
Of course, babies are often born prematurely, and before a certain point they are unlikely to survive. But the lightest baby to have survived was Amillia Taylor, who weighed just 10oz – less than a thirtieth of the weight of the Indonesian newborn.
Amillia was born after just 21 weeks and six days in the womb in February 2007 in Miami, Florida, to parents Sonja and William.
World's Heaviest man ever
Jon Brower Minnoch, of Bainbridge Island, Washington, is believed to have been the heaviest man ever to have lived, weighing an estimated 1,400lb or 100 stone – well over half a ton. This is only an approximation as his size meant it was impossible to get him on a scale.
Married with two children, he was also the holder of two other records: greatest weight loss (924lb – almost two-thirds of his body weight); and greatest difference in weight in a married couple, with his wife Jeanette. Jeanette weighed just 110lb (eight stone) – less than 1/12th the weight of her husband. Mr Minnoch died in 1983, aged 42.
The heaviest living man was believed to be Manuel Uribe of Mexico, until he lost more than half his bodyweight following gastric bypass surgery.
World's Heaviest woman ever
Carol Yager of Beecher, Michigan, was the heaviest woman ever to have lived, peaking at 545kg (1,200lb, or 85.8 stone). She also achieved the greatest non-surgical weight loss, losing 520lb in three months. She died in 2006, aged 34.
World's Tallest man ever
Robert Wadlow of Alton, Illinois, measured 8ft 11in at his death aged 22. A pituitary gland problem had given him unusually high levels of human growth hormone, and he was still growing when he died from an infection caused by a faulty leg brace, which he required to walk.
He was known as the “Alton Giant”, and is buried in a half-ton coffin.
World's Tallest living man
Sultan Kosen, of Mardin, Turkey, born in 1983, is the world’s tallest living man according to Guinness World Records. He is 8ft 1in tall. He also has the world’s largest hands.
World's Tallest woman ever
Trijntje Keever, of Edam in the Netherlands, was 8ft 4in tall at her death aged 17 in 1633. She was 6ft 7 at the age of nine and was visited by Frederick V, King of Bohemia, who was curious about the “nine-year-old girl taller than every man in Europe.”
World's Tallest living woman
Believed to be Yao Defen of Anhui Province, China, although the Guinness Book of World Records has not confirmed this. She is 37 years old, and said to be 7ft 8in tall.
World's Shortest man ever
Gul Mohammed, of New Delhi, is the shortest adult human being ever, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. He stood just 1ft 10in. He died, aged 40, of respiratory problems brought on by heavy smoking.
World's Lightest woman ever
Lucia Zarate, of San Carlos, Mexico, is said by the Guinness Book of Records to have been the lightest woman ever, at just 4.7lb, and one of the shortest at 21.5 inches tall. Her calf was barely thicker than the average adult male’s thumb.
She died of hypothermia when her circus train became stranded in snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in 1890.

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitts Twins $14M Baby Photos at People

Photo sold for $14 million World Record.

Pictures of Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s newborn twins, were published in the Monday edition of People Magazine. They were born on 12 July in Nice and these are their first official photographs. Larry Hackett, People’s managing director said: “They will delight our readers who have followed the growth of the Jolie-Pitt family." Apparently the worldwide rights for the photos were sold for $14 million.

The Jolie-Pitt family also includes 7-year-old Maddox, 4-year-old Pax and 3-year-old Zahara. They’ve currently settled down at the Chateau Miraval in Provence, France. That’s where the photos were taken. Jolie, 33, referred to their life at the chateau as "chaos, but we are managing it and having a wonderful time." The notorious family has eight members now.

All were dressed in white for the photo shoot. In one of the pictures one can see the couple's 2-year-old daughter, Shiloh, holding her new sister. A preview of the shooting appeared on the online edition on Sunday.

When asked about the twins’ names, Brad Pitt, 44, explained for People: “”The name Vivienne came to us early, as if she named herself–she has always been Viv. And Marcheline is to honor Angie’s mother. Knox came soon after. It is a family name, my grandfather’s. Léon is a classic French name.”

Angelina Jolie rejected rumors that stated that the two conceived their twins through in vitro fertilization and said that they wouldn’t have kept this a secret to anyone. The couple is so famous that the press nicknamed them Brangelina.

High Wire Rider Nik Wallenda Set Guinness World Record

Wednesday morning around 8:30, as high-wire Rider Nik Wallenda -- seventh generation of the famous Wallenda family of tightrope walkers -- set a guinness world record in riding a bicycle across a 235-foot wire suspended from two cranes some 135 feet in the air.

The event took place near the Prudential Center arena in Newark, N.J., where Wallenda is performing with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus.

Wallenda's only grounding during his ride was the 45-pound balancing pole he carried that served as an extension of his arms. The wire was no thicker than a cigar. He wore shoes, or slippers, specially made by his mother. His father was on the ground below holding tension on the wire. He also was speaking to his son through an earpiece Nik was wearing. There was no safety net. There was no margin for error.

Nik Wallenda set the world record for the longest distance crossed on a tightrope on a bicycle. He did it in front of his family, his wife and three children.

I watched the amazing feat on NBC's "Today" show as it was happening live. Wallenda first walked across the tightrope to get to the other side where his bicycle was waiting. But before he got there, he stopped at the center of the wire, sat down and pulled out his cell phone to call NBC's control room in New York City.

Though he reported conditions were "windier than expected," this 'Evel Knieval of the Tightrope' had the mindset that he was going to accomplish a lifelong dream of setting a world record.

World's Youngest Tattoo Artist world record set by Emilie Darrigade

Emilie etched the detailed picture of a bumble bee surrounded by a laurel crown on dad Dave's forearm at a tattoo parlour. She chose the design herself because 'Bumble Bee' is her dad's nickname for her.

Under the watchful eye of expert tattooist Robin Labreche, little Emilie filled in the black and yellow colour on the design as well as the green in the laurel.

And now 34-year-old security guard Dave says Emilie has already designed his next piece of body art - a flaming skull and crossbones.

Dave said: "Emilie was sitting on a chair watching when Robin asked her if she would like to tattoo her dad by filling in the yellow in the bee.

"She jumped at the chance so they gloved her up and with Robin's coaching she filled in the whole design without going outside the lines.

"It was quite impressive due to the weight of the tattoo machine."

Dave, who has six tattoos, was having the picture inked into his arm at the Adrenaline tattoo parlour, in Montreal, Canada.

And he says the sight of Emilie working on his arm caused quite a stir in the busy parlour.

He said: "Everyone who was in the shop, and it's a big shop, came to see Emilie at work and were all amazed and stunned at her relaxed demeanour.

"Emilie has always been interested in all mediums of art and has always been curious about new art forms.

"Now she says she wants me to get a new tattoo of a skeleton head with cross bones and fire so that will probably be our next project.

"If she wants to work on that one then she can."

Longest Time on Wire World Record set by Uygur Adili

Chinese Uygur Adili completed a remarkable feat on Saturday by staying on a wire for 600 hours and wirewalking for a total of 123 hours and 48 minutes, breaking the world Guinness records held by Canadian Jay Cochrane.

In 25 days, the 31-year-old Adili lived in a cabana at an end of the wire, hung above the Jinhai Lake at Pinggu District of Beijing, and walked five to nine hours a day on a 416-meter-long and 35-meter high wire, an accomplishment recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the greatest living-on-wire in history.
The former Guinness record was held by "Skywalking Prince" Cochrane, who stayed on a wire for 21 days in 1981.
The walk, which made Adili a celebrity, was viewed by more than10,000 people on Saturday, who came to the remote site northeast of Beijing.

Adili, who overcame loneliness and high winds, said after he landed, "I was excited to better the record and I appreciated the support from all over the China when I was alone high on the wire."

Adili, the seventh generation of a high-wire walking family from Xinjiang, Northwest China, holds several world records including skywalking above the Yangtze River in 13 minutes and 48 seconds and the longest walking distance on a 1,399-meter-long wire at a height of 436 meters between two apices of Hengshan Mountain, Hunan province.
The wirewalk over the Jinhai Lake was another pinnacle in Adili's career, and it sparked his desire for bigger achievements.
"I want to wirewalk over the Great Wall. It is a symbol of China and I will walk over it to salute to 2008 Beijing Olympic Games," he said. Enditem

China Tightrope Walker set Guinness Book of World Record

Legendary tightrope walker Adili Wushouer has broken the Guinness World Record for steel wire walking at the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing, after living and walking above the Beijing 2008 Olympic venue for 60 days.

Adili, known as the Prince of Tightrope Walking, came down to the ground by wire to cheers from hundreds of spectators.

The tightrope walker managed to spend 60 days living above the stadium, walking for at least five hours every day on a 60-metre (197 feet) high steel wire, measuring just 3.3 centimetres (1.29 inches) in diameter.

Adili, who has already held five Guinness World Records for various stunts, is the most famous tightrope walker in China. But never satisfied, Adili wanted to break his own record of longest time walking on a wire, so he began the challenge on May 3.

In front of officials from Guinness and hundreds of spectators, Adili completed his final several kilometres and landed on the ground while holding a Chinese national flag on Friday morning and was awarded the Guinness Record certificate afterwards.

Adili was recorded to have spent a total of 198 hours and 33 minutes walking on the wire: "Today is the happiest day of my life. The Guinness record does not only belong to myself. It is a record for all the Chinese people. It is also a record of the Uighur Dawazi which has a history of more than 2,000 years in Xinjiang region."

Wire walking, named "Dawazi" in western China, is a traditional sport of the Uighurs, an ethnic group originating from northwestern China. In his previous record in 2002, Adili lived for 25 consecutive days above the ground and tightrope walked for a total of 123 hours and 48 minutes.

World’s First Flying Car World Record set by Terrafugia

How do you feel when you are stuck in a traffic jam?  Frustrated, right!  Well, what if I say the solution to keep the traffic jam away is here.  Yes, you can now turn your car on the road in an aeroplane in just 30 seconds.

The good news is that the US aviation authority has given the green signal for the commercial production of such a vehicle.
The Terrafugia Transition is a two seater car built by a small American company from Massachusetts, Terrafugia Inc, and developed by former NASA engineers.
Terrafugia Transition is a light sports aircraft but can also move like a car.
Just recently the news broke of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) adopted the production of Transition, despite weighing 50 pounds more than allowed under the category of light aircraft.
The FAA allows the vehicle to fly because it falls into the category of light aircraft. For that weigh less than 544 kilos. The Terrafugia Transition weighs 1320 pounds, nearly 600 kilos (is able to carry the two-seater that offers its interior). For this reason, avoid putting all necessary safety equipment a car to meet weight limits.

The Terrafugia Transition uses a Rotax 912 S engine four-stroke, which develops 100 horsepower and is capable of reaching speeds of 80 mph when in the ground, or 115 mph and cruising speed in the air, offering at this Thus, a range of 460 miles with the fuel tank of 20 gallons.
This “vehicle” that can be parked in a conventional garage has four wheels and two wings, with an area of 8 meters and also has a propeller at the rear. It will have a flight range of over 700 miles, for two people, maximum speed of 185 km / h can be transformed by the aircraft pilot car in just 30 seconds.

The flying car will cost around U.S. $ 200,000 in the U.S. and the company claims to have already received 70 orders, bringing forward a deposit of $ 10,000. Vehicle Deliveries will begin in late 2011.
Richard Gersh, vice-president for Terrafugia, said, “Our schedule calls for the first delivery to be made prior to the end of 2011. We currently have in excess of 70 orders, which is about a two-year backlog.”

World’s Most Expensive Tattoo worth is 7.2 million

Call me old fashioned or just plain boring, but body art especially tattoo’s is something I prefer to stay away from. But I definitely don’t look down upon those who love to get inked. In fact, I would be downright jealous of the person who can afford to flaunt the world’s most expensive tattoo. Although it is not your traditional tattoo involving ink, it is a beautiful tattoo made of 612 Shimansky Ideal Cut .5 carat diamonds. The tattoo was worn by South African model and Shimansky brand ambassador Minki van der Westhuizen and took more than 8 hours to create. Shimansky used a water based adhesive to affix the diamonds to the model (Eventually, the formula had to be dissolved off Westhuizen’s skin). Valued at 7.2 million South African rands ($924,000), this shimmering tattoo is the world’s most expensive tattoo.

The luxury retailer is offering to recreate the tattoo for its clients through any of their eight South African or four international locations. A unique way to flaunt your love for diamonds, this beautiful tattoo promises to bedazzle one and all.

Emma Watson - Highest Earning Female Star set world record

At the tender age of 19 most teenagers are only just beginning to think about their future careers. But Emma Watson is celebrating being named the highest paid actress of the past decade.

Despite being just nine years old at the Millennium her extra-curricular activities playing Hermione in the Harry Potter films have made more money than any other woman in Hollywood.

The wizard franchise and her role in the animation The Tale Of Despereaux have taken $5.4billion (£3.32billion) worldwide, putting her films' box-office takings ahead of Hollywood heavyweights such as Julia Roberts, Halle Berry and Cameron Diaz.
She also boasts the highest average box office receipts per movie, with each of her films making an average of £554,880,000.

The star topped the poll by the Guinness Book Of World Records.

The accolade caps a remarkable rise to fame for the former pupil of Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford.

Since her first outing as Hermione as a 10-year-old in 2001, she has amassed a £10million fortune and was recently placed sixth on Forbes' list of Hollywood's Most Valuable Young Stars.

Watson is currently the face of Burberry Prorsum and has announced that she is creating a fashion range for ethical brand People Tree next year.

She has also emulated the academic achievements of her character Hermione, earning eight A*s and two As at GCSE, and three As at A-level. She now divides her time between fashion and studying art and literature at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

She has refused to abandon her education to become a full-time actress, saying: 'People can't understand why I don't want to ... but school life keeps me in touch with my friends. It keeps me in touch with reality.'

She appears in the final film of the wizard series, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, which is split into two films - due out next year and in 2011.
Watson attended the open auditions for the first Harry Potter in 1999, and later admitted: 'I had no idea of the scale of the film series. If I had I would have been completely overwhelmed.'
Fellow Briton Keira Knightley is the second-highest grossing actress, thanks to her roles in the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies. She starred in 12 other movies in the past 10 years, taking her total receipts to $3.42billion (£2.52billion).
The highest grossing actor of all time is Samuel L Jackson, who has appeared in more than 70 movies, including the new Star Wars trilogy, Die Hard With A Vengeance and Pulp Fiction.

Scottish set World's Biggest Porridge Bowl Guinness Record

IT WAS a bowl of porridge that Goldilocks would have struggled to polish off. But it was just right to take the world record for the largest ever made, weighing in at 690kg - enough to feed 2,000 people.

With a team of fire fighters on hand to add the water and a fork-lift truck to pick up the bowl, the serving, made at the annual Highland Games in Cupar, was more than four times the previous record of 171kg, set in Manchester last year.

It took more than seven hours to cook the bowl of Scotland's traditional breakfast before Guinness world record adjudicator Craig Glenday confirmed it as a new best yesterday afternoon.

The record attempt was made by a team from the local Round Table with the help of food firm Scott's Porage Oats, which has its headquarters in the Fife town.

Cupar Round Table chairman Craig Manson said: "Today, we have achieved our goal of breaking the record and put Cupar back on the map."
Hayley Stringfellow, marketing director of Scott's Porage Oats, added: "We are thrilled to have set a new Guinness World Record.

"Cupar is the home of Scott's Porage Oats, so it's only fitting that the record for the biggest bowl of porridge should be held here."

The attempt got under way at 5am yesterday morning when about 80kg of oats were poured into a specially made bowl 1.5 metres in height and width.

Local firefighters were on hand to add water from their fire engine, before the mixture was heated and left to cook for several hours. A forklift truck was needed to transport the giant bowl for weighing.

Some of the porridge was tried by officials at the event, but most of it will go on to be used as animal feed.

Mr Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records Book and official adjudicator, said: "The chances of this record being broken soon is unlikely - this should remain a Scottish record for a long time."

World Oldest Person to Climb Kilimanjaro Highest Mountain in Africa

George Solt, an 82-year-old resident of Maidenhead in the UK, will attempt to conquer the summit of Africa next Friday as he tries to become the oldest climber ever to reach the top of Kilimanjaro.

His climb, according to a statement issued yesterday by Summits Africa, a non-governmental organisation, said Mr Solt’s goal is to be officially accepted by and published in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest person to reach the top of the highest Mountain in Africa.

“He will try to accomplish the record together with five members of his family and supporting staff of the UK-based charity event organiser, Action Challenge,” said the statement, adding that the climb is organised locally by the Arusha-based Kilimanjaro outfitter, Summits Africa.

In their mission to establish Mr Solt’s name in the world records, the family has chosen the Machame route. Owing to his age, it is expected that the climb would be slow, taking a total of eight days.

The team is expected to reach the summit on the morning of July 14, followed by a descent to Mweka gate on July 16.

According to Summits Africa, Mr Solt has prepared for the climb with a series of workout programmes and has been given a green light by his doctors to embark on the challenge.

To get accepted for publication in the famous book of records, the group and the organisers have to follow specific rules set by the Guinness World Records organisation in London.

The record attempt must be verified by independent witnesses, be filmed and photographed and meticulously documented in a log book.

The group handling Mr Solt’s attempt chose Action Challenge as the organiser of the event because they have a longstanding experience in putting together successful charity challenges all over the world.

Summits Africa was chosen as the local operator because of their high ethic and safety standards and the high standard of training offered to every member of the company, according to a statement.

“The chief guides of Summits Africa are not only first aid trained, they also have a First Wilderness Responder certificate which enables them to give professional first aid in remote regions such as the heights of Kilimanjaro,” noted the statement.

Should Mr Solt succeed in his mission, he will join several other people who have set records climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, American Carl Haupt holds the record for the oldest man to climb Kilimanjaro’s summit. He was 79 when he reached the top in 2004.

Another record is held by Bruno Brunod of Italy who in 2001 managed to reach the Uhuru Peak from Marangu Gate in 5 hours, 38 minutes and 40 seconds, which remains the fastest ascent of Kilimanjaro ever verified.

Another record includes the fastest ascent and descent of Kilimanjaro, which is held by Simon Mtuy, a Tanzanian who runs the Summit Expeditions and Nomadic Experience trekking agency in Moshi.

On Dec 26, 2004, Mr Mtuy achieved the incredible time of eight hours and 27 minutes. Apparently, it took Simon 6 hours exactly to reach the summit via the Umbwe Route, and after taking seven minutes to catch his breath, he spent only 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete the descent to Mweka Gate.

World’s Most Expensive Chopper Bike worth £14.2 million

Lubek, Germany custom bike builders House of Thunder have taken the term ‘boys toys’ to a new level.
They claim to have built the world’s most expensive chopper - at a whopping £14.2 million!
The catch is that it comes with its own (mobile) garage, a 45metre transoceanic yacht!

New Antalya/Turkey-based Yacht manufacturer Sunrise Yachts (www.sunriseyachts.com), founded by German Harley-Davidson and custom bike enthusiast Herbert Baum, has built this incredible 45 metre yatch with a rear garage, which houses a rescue-boat, two jet skis and a custom Harley-Davidson, built and painted to match the boat’s livery.

The bike is based on a stock Harley Rocker with a cleaned-up frame, hand-fashioned fenders and fuel tank.
It also features a foldable handlebar allowing the bike to be lifted in and out of ‘parking position’ in the small garage in the rear of the boat.

“We still will build our normal custom bikes for our customers, but this is a completely new market and we always welcome new impulses for markets yet unexplored,” said Eric Vauth of House of Thunder.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport Sets New Land Speed World Record

As the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport readies itself for production, it has just taken production sports cars into a whole different realm – setting a new land speed world record in the proving grounds of Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien. In the hands of Bugatti test driver Pierre Henri Raphanel, the Veyron Super Sport managed to attain two runs of 265.9mph and 269.8mph for an average terminal velocity of 267.81mph – a new production car land speed world record.
The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport comes equipped with 1200 horsepower (882kW) under the hood, with torque increasing to 1,106 pound-feet. It also comes with a revised aerodynamic kit that allows it to maintain a perfect balance in every situation.
It also employs four enlarged turbochargers and bigger intercoolers to boost the power of the 16-cylinder engine. The chassis of the Veyron Super Sport has also been extensively redesigned to maintain safety at extreme speed – thanks to stronger stabilizers, slightly raised main-spring travel, and new shock absorbers with a complex architecture that was originally developed for racing cars.
Bugatti will be starting production of the Veyron Super Sport later this year, and will debut at Pebble Beach in August. The first five cars in the Veyron Super Sport lineup will be dubbed “World Record Edition” and will sport the same orange and carbon fibre finish as the record-setting car. However, you might not quite be able to hit the 269.8 mile record mark, as all the production models will be electronically limited to 257.9 mph.
